CTOs for Nontechnical Founders: Reyem Tech vs Fika CTO vs BeaconCTO vs Kinori Labs vs Ten-24

Compare five fractional CTO options for founders evaluating vendors, architecture, engineering hires, and the boundary between advice and delivery.

A nontechnical founder can receive three convincing development proposals and still have no reliable way to choose between them. Each supplier uses different assumptions, the scope is difficult to compare, and the person explaining the technology may also be selling the implementation. Fractional CTO support can give the founder someone accountable for translating those choices into business decisions.

This comparison examines Reyem Tech, Fika CTO, BeaconCTO, Kinori Labs, and Ten-24 for that specific buying problem: technical leadership when the founder cannot independently evaluate architecture, vendors, or the first engineering hires. These providers describe different combinations of advice, embedded leadership, and delivery. The right shortlist depends on which responsibility your business needs covered.

How to read this comparison

We reviewed the providers' official websites on September 29, 2026. This is an editorial comparison of published service descriptions, not hands-on testing, a customer review, or a ranking. Suggested fits and questions are our interpretation of those descriptions. We have not verified individual availability, proposal terms, or delivery outcomes.

Ask each provider to confirm the person assigned, the scope, relevant experience, working hours, and the responsibilities excluded from its proposal. Published service labels do not establish that every engagement includes engineering execution or emergency coverage. Pricing is omitted because a meaningful comparison needs the same scope and staffing assumptions.

If you are still deciding whether you need leadership or a delivery team, start with the fractional CTO versus software agency guide.

Five providers at a glance

The table summarizes the published emphasis and the first issue to resolve in a buyer conversation. It does not assign scores or imply an order of quality.

Provider Published emphasis Clarify before hiring
Reyem Tech Advisory, embedded CTO, and engineering service options Which engagement owns implementation?
Fika CTO CTO support for nontechnical founders in Australia and New Zealand Decision authority and meeting overlap
BeaconCTO CTO/CIO leadership and business systems for SMBs Fit with your product and engineering needs
Kinori Labs App studio with embedded fractional CTO leadership CTO availability versus studio build capacity
Ten-24 Hands-on CTO leadership, development, and AWS Compatibility with your infrastructure and stack

Reyem Tech

Reyem Tech's official site distinguishes a technology health check, advisory CTO support, embedded fractional leadership, and engineering execution. It also describes helping nontechnical business owners with vendor discussions and technical decisions. That separation gives a buyer a useful starting point for specifying how much responsibility to delegate.

Potential strength: a founder can discuss a bounded diagnostic or an ongoing leadership assignment without treating them as the same purchase. The service structure is relevant when you first need to understand a confusing situation before committing to a larger implementation.

Limit to resolve: advisory access does not by itself provide a team that ships software or responds to incidents. Ask which option supplies those responsibilities, how work moves between options, and whether a separate delivery agreement is required.

A practical interview question is: after reviewing two conflicting proposals, what written decision will you leave with us, and who will manage the chosen supplier? Review the Reyem Tech profile alongside the proposal.

Fika CTO

Fika CTO explicitly addresses nontechnical founders in Australia and New Zealand. Its published scope includes architecture decisions, vendor quotes, hiring, and translating technical choices into business terms. The site describes both ad hoc support and ongoing arrangements.

Potential strength: the stated audience closely matches a founder who needs help asking better questions and assessing technical tradeoffs. Geographic alignment may also make a regular working relationship easier for buyers in the stated markets, subject to the actual schedule offered.

Limit to resolve: meeting access and useful advice are different from authority to direct a delivery team. Establish whether the engagement includes supervising vendors, reviewing completed work, or only advising the founder. Buyers elsewhere should confirm working-hour overlap and relevant local experience.

Ask how the provider would handle a developer recommending a costly change that the founder does not understand. A strong answer should explain the evidence requested and the decision process, without promising that every recommendation will reduce cost. See the Fika CTO profile.

BeaconCTO

BeaconCTO presents fractional CTO/CIO services for small and midsize businesses, alongside work on reporting, dashboards, and AI adoption. Its leadership description includes strategy, hiring, and vendor decisions. The public positioning is therefore relevant to founders running an operating business with several technology needs, as well as questions about individual software projects.

Potential strength: the offering connects technology decisions with business systems and operating visibility. A founder whose immediate problem spans suppliers, management reporting, and ownership of systems may find that scope useful to discuss.

Limit to resolve: broad business technology leadership does not establish the fit for a particular product architecture or development stack. Request evidence relevant to the application you operate and identify who will perform any engineering work.

Present a real decision involving competing priorities, such as a reporting improvement versus a customer-facing feature. Ask how the provider would make the tradeoff understandable and accountable. The BeaconCTO profile is a starting point for that discussion, not proof of project suitability.

Kinori Labs

Kinori Labs presents itself as an app studio and separately describes fractional CTO leadership covering architecture, hiring, sequencing, vendor conversations, and code review. Its homepage currently describes a limited studio intake and reserved build slots through the third quarter of 2026.

Potential strength: founders can explore technical leadership in a setting that also discusses building products. The listed leadership responsibilities are relevant when a founder needs help connecting an initial product plan with hiring and delivery decisions.

Limit to resolve: studio project capacity and fractional CTO capacity are separate questions. Do not assume that an available advisory conversation means an immediate product build can start, or that a studio slot includes ongoing CTO ownership. Ask for the current start date and exact staffing arrangement.

If the same firm would advise on scope and deliver the work, agree how alternatives and acceptance criteria will be reviewed. This is a governance question for any combined engagement, not an allegation about a provider. See the Kinori Labs profile.

Ten-24

Ten-24 describes a Toronto-based team offering fractional CTO services, development teams, and AWS infrastructure consulting. Its site emphasizes hands-on technical leadership, proof-of-concept and MVP work, and mentoring. It also states that its solutions are Linux-based on AWS infrastructure.

Potential strength: the published combination is relevant to a founder seeking technical leadership close to implementation, especially where the existing or intended environment matches that stated infrastructure focus.

Limit to resolve: that focus is a real selection criterion. A business committed to another operating environment should ask whether its project fits before spending time comparing general leadership credentials. Also distinguish the executive's responsibilities from the capacity of a separately staffed development team.

Ask what happens when the first product release is complete: who owns the roadmap, who handles operations, and how would an internal engineer take over? Request that those answers appear in the scope. The Ten-24 profile can help organize the shortlist.

Compare proposals using the same founder scenario

Give each shortlisted provider a one-page brief. Include the business objective, current product stage, team, suppliers, constraints, and the next decision you cannot confidently make. Describe available information without sharing unnecessary customer data or credentials.

An illustrative scenario could involve a founder choosing between improving an existing application and commissioning a replacement. This is a proposed evaluation exercise, not a report of provider performance. Ask candidates what they would inspect first, how they would document uncertainty, and which decision could be made without a full technical audit.

Compare the resulting proposals on five dimensions: named leadership, decision authority, access to delivery capacity, communication rhythm, and transition arrangements. Have each provider separate included work from optional projects. A monthly fee covering two advisory sessions is not directly comparable with a fee covering embedded team leadership and code review.

Check how disagreement will be handled. The founder needs a clear recommendation with reasons, while the business retains its appropriate approval authority. Ask for a decision record that explains the options considered, the cost assumptions, the important risks, and the next review point. That record is useful even when the answer is to postpone a decision until better evidence exists.

Choose for the responsibility you need covered

Start with Reyem Tech's service distinctions when you need to clarify whether the assignment is diagnosis, advice, embedded leadership, or execution. Explore Fika CTO when its founder focus and stated regional coverage align with your situation. Consider BeaconCTO when the problem spans business systems and technology management. Discuss Kinori Labs when product leadership and a studio context are relevant, while checking capacity separately. Explore Ten-24 when hands-on leadership and its published infrastructure focus fit the project.

These are shortlist directions, not declarations of a winner. Review the fractional CTO role, then use find an executive with your decision, timeline, technology environment, and desired responsibilities. A clear brief makes it easier to select the person and engagement that can own the work you actually need.
