Fintech covers businesses with very different customers, infrastructure and obligations. A payments business, investment platform and financial workflow software company should not use the same executive brief. Describe the product, customer relationship, money movement and jurisdictions before asking a provider whether it “knows fintech.”
A provider’s industry classification is a starting point for questions. It does not establish authorization, regulatory expertise or competence with every financial product. Confirm the assigned executive’s relevant experience and identify where specialist legal, compliance or security advice must be involved.
Finance leadership may help with planning, reporting and capital allocation. Technology leadership may cover architecture, vendor oversight and reliability. Marketing leadership may focus on positioning, the buying process and an approval system for external communications. Revenue leadership can connect acquisition and account growth when that cross-functional authority is explicitly included.
The relationship between roles matters. A growth proposal may affect service capacity or risk exposure. A technical change may affect customer commitments or reporting. Decide who has authority to approve tradeoffs and who must be consulted.
Ask for experience with a comparable product and customer type. Request an example of how the executive worked with compliance, counsel or security specialists. Discuss information access, documentation, vendor conflicts and the process for escalating an unfamiliar issue.
Avoid treating a long list of regulatory acronyms as evidence of fit. A more useful answer explains the limits of the executive’s responsibility and how the company’s specialists remain involved.
Attivo Partners publishes finance support with fintech coverage. Tyche Consulting focuses on technology leadership in financial services. CMO Alpha describes a financial services and fintech marketing specialization.
Use the CFO, CTO and CMO hubs to compare responsibilities. Before signing, agree the deliverables, escalation path, confidentiality terms and evidence needed to evaluate the engagement. Industry familiarity should support a well-defined mandate, not replace it.
Build a useful brief, assess the assigned CFO and compare proposals against the financial decisions your company needs to make.
